After a good start to the weekend, the 9’s turned around and played in the Frazier Halloween Havoc tournament in Jackson, NJ where they made a great run to the championship game. In game 1 of the tourney the 9’s found themselves down 11-4 in the 4th but on the backs of a BIG team effort battled and clawed their way back for a 12-11 victory. Game 2 was a reversed script where the 9U squad so themselves holding onto a lead the entire game and eventually coming away a 13-12 winner. This lead them to the championship game against the Toms River Blacksox who unfortunately had just a little bit more than the Redhawks could handle as they fell in the final 11-8.

Colin Chou blew it by the Troopers the rest of the way not allowing another run. The offense kept working and scored 10 in total defeating the Troopers 10-4.

Game 2

The RedHawks played Monroe in Game 2. Following two errors in the first the Redhawks helped the Monroe team take a 4-0 lead. 3 more errors in the game helped Monroe control the game early. After the RedHawks scored 27 runs in 2 games their bats silenced and didn’t record a hit until the 3rd. Monroe scored 9 in total taking a 9-0 lead going into the 5th. The RedHawks battled in the fifth scoring 5. Before the come-back could be completed the time limit was reached and the RedHawks fell to Monroe in 5 innings(due to time limit).

The RedHawks were knocked out of the tournament by allowing 1 more run to score then the Troopers did, proving again that every play in baseball matters.

11U Elite

The 11’s went 1-1 on Saturday to help them maintain their first place standing in the USABL on the heels of great pitching from Brian Lietz and Trevor Hansen. Lietz got the win going 5 1/3 innings giving up 3ER and 1BB while fanning 3 and Hansen closed it out going 1 2/3 innings allowing only 1 BB while striking out 1.
Sunday was not the same as Saturday for the 11U squad who play well defensively but couldn’t get the bats going and finished with a tournament record of 0-1-1. The 11’s look to bounce back and remain in 1st place of the USABL.

11U Prospects

On a frigid afternoon, the prospects were swept in a double header at Dalton Park, Perth Amboy. Glen Cantalupo started on the mound and was dominating for the first 3 innings. In the top of the first, Cantalupo reached base with the teams only hit in game 1. He advanced to 3rd after 2 stolen bases, but was thrown out at the plate after attempting to score on a ground ball back to the pitcher. The redhawks were unable to produce any other hits the rest of the game. In the bottom of the 4th, Cantalupo lost control and the wheels fell off. Despite 8Ks, walks and mistakes in the field allowed the Caribbean All Stars to plate 9 runners to lose game 1.
In Game 2, Cantalupo, Preston Sepe, and Alfonso Esposito collected 2 hits each allowing the Redhawks to hold a 6-5 lead into the 7th inning. Stephen Scharf went 4.2 innings surrendering 5 runs on 8 hits. Andy Kramer suffered the loss as control issues and 4 errors caused the Redhawks demise. After letting up 7 runs in the top of the 6th, the Hawks could only manage 1 run in the bottom half to come up short for the devastating defeat.
